Making of - Kulla book 2by `trenchmaker

Some people asked me how the illustrations are done for my books.
The three images show the original sketches of three double pages which are in my second Kulla book. Normally I stick very close to the sketches although on canvas it´s kinda hard to hit the right colors (especially evening colors are a pain in the ass).

The right side is "plain" because the text will be on that page. Normally I test the canvas "page" with a dummy text foil.

The original text gets split into pages and after that I do the sketches. I have a layout which I print out (including name and page-numbers). On those I sketch with pencil and scan everything for the rough coloration in photoshop. Those colored sketches get printed out again (yes... i know it´s odd) and discussed with my editor. If some sketches don´t work I have to redo the whole process until the final sketches get an okay.
