This doesn't surprise me. Here in Texas, they just closed the one by me (a city away). The issue is that their locations aren't the easiest, and Barnes & Noble is better located and has a larger variety. When I was growing up in Indiana, I used to go to Borders because they were close. But B&N truly has better deals and feels much warmer. With the economy the way it is, I'm amazed it took this long. B&N has so many cheap books and the discount card, as well as promotions and free things every day if you have a Nook. I'm more of a Half Price Books girl myself, but even that's too expensive in my head. The best are books from the resale shops, a dollar or less. (I have a Nook and lots of $ in gift cards, but I can't bring myself to buy any books on that thing for some reason.)
As for those who are employed there, and the authors and artists that will be losing money and jobs, it literally hurts my heart. I will be praying for everybody being affected by this, as well as their families.
It really stinks! I LOVE books, real live - in my hand - heavy books! I want to be Belle with a giant library! I love the idea of the Nook but I don't want it to replace my favorite hang out spot! (Is that super nerdy?)
On the other hand, one is closing near my house and the sales are great
Imma sad that lots of Borders are closing but the only Borders I've been to was out of state and i normally go to Barnes and Nobles so this doesn't affect me directly that much... but still D:!! It makes me sad that bookstores are closeing TuT
The UK branch of Borders went down a while ago. D: I was like 'awwww' since I always go there for my books. Also I had a borders gift card with money still on it! DX
Angus & Roberson & borders here ditto Sad for those workers that now are probably in jeopardy financially with house repayments etc and the uncertain position of when they may get re-employed been there done that before thats the saddest thing of it all... the human cost when large corps go belly up..it wont be top management that suffers like the floor staff will...
Actually thats whom one book seller here is blaming for the failure..
