Save the Fairy Tale Treasure! game illustrations by trenchmaker Save the Fairy Tale Treasure! game illustrations by trenchmaker
Bonus points if you're not from Germany and still know every tale. ;)
Redesign or "dedusting of an old game that got a second chance because the game concept is great and I could FINALLY draw humans.

Game Age: 4+, kid's game
Release: August 2016, if anybody attends the SPIEL... I'll be there all four days!

How the final game looks like:
vimeo.com/154047578
(in German language but it's good to see the game parts)

on BGG:
boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/28…
(including the old version from 2006 which was illustrated by Barbara Kinzebach)

For the clueless:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puss_in_…
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town_Mus… (that was the hardest because the scene is usually depicted from another point of view)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star…
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_H…
omg, the English titles sound so wrong XD

Medium:
Coloured Pencils, Water Color, Textures, Photoshop

I uploaded the sparkle texture I made for the Star Money (and Cinderella and Mother Hulda and a CD cover that's totally not connected to the faires but gosh, awesome instant snow) here:
Sparkle Texture by trenchmaker
It's free and it's super huge.

Love them
Number three is the only one I didn't recognize... the rest are also famous fairytales in Holland (De Gelaarsde Kat, de Bremer Stadsmuzikanten en Vrouw Holle). I grew up with these stories.

Really beautiful pictures, I love that some people still draw like that for something children related!

I mulled over the comment and was like "okay, I have no idea, I HAVE TO ASK". What exactly do you mean with "like this"- I'm really curious. ^^;

Aww, I'm sorry, I wrote that because I'm not very good explaining things in english^^

I'll still try!

Nowadays, I found that drawings for children (be it books, animes or else) is very simplistic and dumb, with no depths, often caricatured. On the contrary, your drawings are fairy-like, without doing very complex drawings, you make your pictures alive with the scene and the choice of colours. Your style is beautiful, and totally the kind I love to see in picture books.

So when I said "like this", I was speaking of making drawings that make people dream, without having to do extreme design to draw attraction.

I hope it was a little more clear for you^^

By the way: I know all four fairy tale :p

That's "The Star Money". I posted the link to the wiki-entry in my comment. It's a good tale and not as bad ending as... a lot of tales.

The only one I didn't know was "The Star Money", it was great to know of another fairytale I skipped :P But damn, whoever doesn't know at least some fairytales collected by the Grimm Brothers sure missed out on a lot and should grab a copy of the collection, and afterwards maybe even venture for the gritty, more sinister originals.
But returning to the happy-themed versions I always loved most "Puss in boots" and "The Town musicians of Bremen". Always loved in these fairytales the fact that the animals were so clever and finally getting mischievous revenge on humans for their misdeeds, both to each other of their fellow humans and against animals. Out of the 2 however the musicians are still #1, especially because they managed to put aside their differences in species and work together so successfully. Love love love them, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful illustrations :huggle: Fairytales are the best :w00t:

Ah..... thank you. Well the original Grimm tales were... pretty grim. I have an old book with a lot of "uncut" versions and the Andersen tales aren't less gruesome. If you dive back into the "original tales" the Grimms told there are quite a lot different sources. Like Little Red Riding- I think I read over 30 different versions now and I think I haven't read all. It's interesting.
Sadly my favourite is and will always be " the wild swans".. sigh... I love it... and it's such an underdog.

I know all those stories expect the girl with the stars. At least it doesn't ring any bells to me when I just look at it... Just fyi, I think I like best Mother Hulda from the three stories I can recognize. ;) Excellent job for illustrating the stories! ^^

Thank you for the link! Now that I read the story it reminds me one story that I once read, but the tone of it was much sadder and the ending too...

I'm curious about the one you actually know. "The Little Match Girl" maybe? Because THAT ending is awful.

I know that story too, but no, it wasn't that one (and yes, I agree. The ending was awful). I'm not sure about the story's actual name, but I think it's "The man who gave it all away". The story tells about a man who was in journey or sort of. Along the way he met several greedy people/creatures who would ask from his money, clothes...etc. He happily gave each person/creature what they asked happily and kept going. As the story progress in the end he only has his head left (he had given rest of his body parts away already) when he met troll or sort of who asked from his eyes. He agreed to give his eyes to this creature who then spat top of him. The man couldn't be more joyful about that and thanked the creature happily, because no one else had given him anything before that. The story ends there. It left really mixed feelings upon me, because the way it ended.
